died at home in Eureka on Jan 16th of prostate cancer. He was 62. He fought cancer with the same drive and determination that he showed during his years as a marathoner and triathlete. Born in San Jose, CA in 1948, Dave attended local schools and graduated from Willow Glen High School. He came to Humboldt County in 1966 to attend HSU, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He lived in Eureka for most of the rest of his life. Dave worked at a number of jobs during his life, most notably as a school bus driver for Humboldt County Schools. His favorite hobbies included Jeeping, running marathons and triathlons, backpacking, and volunteering as part of the pit crew for the Kinetic Sculpture Race. One of his favorite stories about himself was the year that it snowed on the day of the Clam Beach Run. He took his skis and skied the entire length of the race, ending up with his picture on the front page of the Times-Standard. As a backpacker and trip leader, Dave was well-known for his map and compass skills. He wanted to be remembered as a person who taught others to backpack in a safe and environmentally sane way. David is survived by his sister Wanda Naylor of Humboldt County and by his brother Don Naylor of Humboldt County and Los Angeles County, and by his Creighton cousins in the Eastern United States. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo Creighton Naylor, and by his father, Benjamin Franklin Naylor, both of San Jose, CA, and later Santa Rosa, CA. No services will be held, but donations in Dave's memory would be appreciated, to either American Cancer Society or Hospice of Humboldt. Special thanks to Hospice of Humboldt. Please sign the guest book, and if you have any special memories of Dave, we would enjoy hearing them, either in the guest book, or by mail to W. Naylor at P.O. Box 832, Bayside, CA 95524. Dave Naylor lived with us (Kreuiter, Steve Williams, Bob Leonard, and myself) for a while at the "Bawdy Bowery" out on Essex Lane half way to Blue Lake.  You will notice one of Dave's other vehicles, a fine 58(?) Ford wagon and his even then classic travel trailer.  I think we caught hell from the landlord so Dave had to find a new spot for the trailer before too long.   Steve is in the garage chopping wood, his fine 63 or 64 Chevy coupe in front of the house.  The 62 Chevy Belaire belonged to my parents and was on loan while my 65 Mustang was in the shop.  Leonard was driving the red Bug Eye Sprite at the time.  Not sure that Kreuiter had "Maryjane" yet.  I recall he borrowed my car "A LOT".  This is "as good as it got" living in the spring, summer and fall of 1968.  It was also the transition time from the old house to the new house.    Bosch

We will all miss him.....Fair Winds and following Seas Crazy Dave...............from your college fraternity brothers........
